Reclaiming Wonders
The image depicts an outdoor scene in a wooded area, with a dirt path running through the center. Several people are visible, including a woman in a red shirt standing on the path, and two children, one in a yellow shirt and one in an orange shirt, playing nearby. A basketball hoop can be seen attached to a tree trunk in the background, suggesting a makeshift basketball court in the woods. In the foreground, a pair of legs clad in khaki shorts is visible, along with a book titled 'Bellewether' by Susanna Kearsley, indicating the person holding the book is relaxing and reading while surrounded by nature. The scene conveys a sense of tranquility and leisure, with the adults and children enjoying the outdoors in different ways.

Make Time for Reading: A Homeschool Mom's Reflection

It’s allowed. I promise. It’s just a hard mental shift. Seven years into this homeschool mom life — and I still feel “guilty” when sitting and reading. Culture says, “Busy Busy Busy,” and I say, “Nope” 😉 . . Pull up a chair. Let the kids play. Get some beautiful spring sun. And show the kids that you have your priorities right. That you can self care. Relaxing trumps cleaning or folding laundry or.. or... or... Maybe a little learning for grown ups. . . Don’t be that parent that says “I like to read when I have time”. Especially not in front of your kids! So our kids might not have time either? You have time. (Maybe I am preaching to myself too? Time to exercise should be in that same category, right? Ha!) . . I give you permission. And hold a real book so the kids know you’re reading and not playing on your phone —- mine might have called me out for bringing out a book and playing on my phone before I started reading. It’s too tempting! . . And if you haven’t found Susanna Kearsley, find her. Historical fiction. And one of my faves.
