Discovering Phillis Wheatley: A Serendipitous Learning Journey

Mom nerd moment today! I almost didn’t even read this book because it was overdue. Library rebel here ;) A Voice of her Own by Kathryn Lasky. And I knew nothing about Phillis Wheatley before. The shame! . . And then we leaned about George Whitefield the preacher and I looked him up. Aha!!! Then I excitedly went and got the timeline card from yesterday to show them the same picture. First Great Awakening. Let’s just say, the kids (or husband) weren’t as excited as I was!! . . It was about Phillis but also about her life in slavery and the Stamp Act and the Boston Massacre and the Tea Party and George Washington. Don’t you love it when it all comes together so beautifully?! . . It’s a good one!
