Reclaiming Wonders

Children's Books on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Needed: Authors to write modern historical picture books that cover the last fifty years or so. Real life. Real stories. I’m struggling to find good, beautiful books and starting to think there just aren’t many to find. Sadly. . . Then I found all three of these today that incorporated the Vietnam Wall each in their own way. Each portraying the Vietnam Wall and beautiful in their own way. . . 📕The Wall has been around for awhile about a little boy visiting the wall to find his grandfather’s name. 📗Maya Lin is about the architect-artist who designed the Wall thirty years ago; a story I had never heard. 📘Rolling Thunder is about a boy who goes with grandpa for the annual Rolling a thunder rally for veterans in D.C. that happens every Memorial Day; the pictures in this one were our favorite! So lovely. . . Mom warning: prepare to get teary. . . Such a good follow up on my kids’ seeing the half size Vietnam Wall two weeks ago on our trip. I love bringing the connections together.
