Mastering Editing Styles
EDITING IN DIFFERENT STYLES 👇🏻
(Save this post for the next time you edit!)
Finding your style with editing, I’ve learned, either comes really easily, takes awhile, or downright changes with every edit. All of which is totally ok! I’ve experienced all of these throughout the years and at the end of the day it’s only expanded what I can do in post so don’t feel pressured to get anywhere fast, just learn and expand as you go!
If you’re trying to master specific styles, moods, textures, colors, etc. THE BEST thing you can do is open Lightroom and start maxing out all the sliders in different combinations. Combine heavy grain with super warm highlights and cool shadows, max out the blues in the calibration tab and up your highlights, or make the most ridiculous curves adjustments. Try. It. All.
And if you land on something you like save it as a preset. Not only will it help you find combinations you like but when the lighting is different in the next shot you edit you can see how that plays into finding your style as well!
Do you have an editing style or a favorite that you’re working toward?
