The Paradox of Being Different
So I touched on this a bit on the last post, but I’ve been really intrigued by the paradox of being different recently. -
It seems that more and more, especially in the millennial generation, people are starting to question the status quo, which is good in a lot of ways, but I want to specifically explore the idea of challenging the status quo just for the fun of it, or what’s even more interesting, because a lot of people are doing it haha. -
You see it all the time. It’s become a cliche now. There’s cheesy quotes everywhere like “being different isn’t a bad thing, it means your brave enough to be yourself” or “if you are lucky enough to be different don’t ever change.” It’s funny because challenging the status quo is becoming a sort of status quo in itself with our generation. The very thing we think sets us apart is actually a defining factor in a generation. -
So why does it matter? -
I think sometimes we spend so much time planning the revolution, that when it changes we don’t know what to do. Like seriously have you ever heard any advice on what to do once you are different or unique or whatever? There’s not much. So instead of focusing efforts on being different, what if we focused our efforts on mission and purpose. -
When you can clearly define what that is for you, you will be different by default because everyone’s calling is slightly different. Instead of being different for the sake of standing out, be different because your character and work is too good, unique, and valuable to ignore. -
Be blessed and stay stoked 😎🤙
