Identity Beyond Social Media
I wasn’t made on Instagram. -
I think it’s important to make a clarification in a culture where promotion - especially self promotion is so prevalent. A lot of you know me as the guy that posts cool pictures with interesting captions on social media, but that’s not where I was made. -
I was made in the 9 moves I made as a kid. I was made in the Christian home my parents raised me in. I was made in the thousands of dollars and time spent learning how to do what I do. I was made in the crazy film projects I’ve been doing since I was 8 years old that I had a hard time convincing even my siblings to be a part of. I was made in the all nighters i’ve pulled to finish projects in time. I was made by the countless influential people that have spoken into my life both knowing and unknowingly. I was made by the 3 film projects I did for free and even drove across the country in a 26 ft box truck for. I was made by the relentless will to compete instilled in me by my parents. Instagram is just an app I upload pictures on. -
That’s literally all it is yet so many people wrap their entire identity in it. If I’m being honest, most people will look at a picture for 2 seconds if you’re lucky and maybe double tap if you’re really lucky lol. It’s crazy the power trip some people get off of having a few people double tap on a picture they post on an app that could die tomorrow. -
You are not defined by a singular thing you do. It takes a whole lifetime of experiences combined together to create YOU. Don’t let an app, a like, a job, a girlfriend, a car or anything else define who you are. They didn’t make you. God made you and he’s put you through situations to groom you and prime you for what’s next. -
Be blessed and stay stoked😎🤙
