Don’t be a “great value” creator The reason Walmarts business model works is because it relies on massive scale. They can have low prices and low perceived value because they just sell so much stuff! Most creatives are not in the high volume game, yet they operate their business on a similar business model and wonder why it’s not working. People go to Walmart to get just about anything. They expect to pay the cheapest price, they don’t expect incredible customer service, they don’t expect anything custom, they know they can probably get the same stuff at another store if Walmart is sold out, but they get what they pay for. That’s the brand and that’s unfortunately how a lot of creators are unintentionally branding themselves as well. Branding is just how the public PERCEIVES you. So if you want to change the perception you have to brand yourself differently (and no that doesn’t just mean your logo and the design of your site). Branding is literally everything you do. People are willing to spend a lot of money at designer stores because the PERCEIVED value is high. The actual quality may not be much better than any other department store but the perception of value is. Why? High prices. Tailored sales experience. You feel good walking in the store. You feel good about buying from them. It gives you perceived status. You feel like you got a product that most people can’t. The list goes on! If you aren’t positioning yourself with high perceived value, then you are boxing yourself in with every other creator who’s willing to compete on price.
