Jessie on a Journey
A cheerful woman wearing a vibrant magenta tank top is smiling as she sits at an old-fashioned wooden loom, weaving a colorful blanket or garment made of cotton. The loom is situated in a room with green walls, wooden floorboards, and various weaving supplies and tools surrounding her workspace. Through a window, the corrugated metal roof of another building can be seen in the distance. The woman appears to be practicing or learning the traditional craft of handloom weaving, possibly at a textile cooperative or factory.

Learning Traditional Handloom Weaving

What's one new skill you've learned aborad, or at least gotten to try? 🖌📸💡 ___ Recently I had the pleasure of spending a day in Leon -- one of Nicaragua's main cities -- and visiting a blanket factory. Called Telar Manual Textil La Fe, the factory is family owned and operates as a women's cooperative. I loved seeing the different designs, from small mountains to besos (kisses), woven into the 100% cotton handmade garments. ___ Even more, I got a mini lesson at using the wooden looms. I think I have two left feet, as I wasn't so good at the foot pedals. That's okay though, as it was a truly special experience!
