Rethinking Language Arts in Homeschooling
Let’s redefine. Let’s look at education differently.
👉What if life was filled with words and not just 9:30 everyday in English class?
👉What if “language arts” wasn’t a separate curriculum but was incorporated into everything?
👉What if reading time was all reading forms and not just assigned books? Cookbooks and fact books count!
👉What if comprehension questions came from the zoo placard or history site?
Change your view. ❤️
For the #hereisourhomeschool challenge from @intentionalhomeschooling , the topic is “language arts”. If I said that phrase to my kids, they wouldn’t have a clue what I was talking about. 😉
🔹Reading - I never found a curriculum that really clicked with us. We just figured it out when they were truly ready.
🔹Spelling curriculum - The bigger kids copy the misspelled words in their writing. When Mom remembers. 😁
🔹Handwriting - I wish I’d found @thegoodandthebeautiful books years ago.
🔹Grammar and writing - I don’t do hardly anything until 4th grade with our #classicalconversations curriculum # Classical Conversations that I teach. Even then, it’s based on history!
No “English” class exists in middle school and high school. CC does grammar in Latin, and writing is mixed with all topics. I love that skills aren’t specific to subjects in the Challenge years.
Look for the opportunity to double dip your kids’ learning. And call it done!
👉I’d love to help relax your homeschool and family learning! Feel free to send me a DM with any questions. ❤️ Bobbie
