Homeschooling: Integrating Social Studies into Daily Life

Here I am. Stirring the homeschooler pot again. 😉 👉👉Quit seeing school as “subjects”. Do you see your adult life in subjects? It’s all connected. 🤯 Social Studies. Day 5 for the #hereisourhomeschool challenge. I did research to make sure I understood the term. 🤣 In an hour and a half this morning, the kids did social studies. No books required. 🌎My oldest told me about her debate research on whether or not the electoral college should be replaced. We discussed representation in the states and redistricting and history of racism. I love that debate lets her double dip into relevant subjects. 🌎She turned on the @npr news podcast “UpFirst.” With news about the Guatemalan presidential drama and Republicans visiting the Mexican border, it was politics, geography, and government all together. It even mentioned trafficking Fentanyl on border crossings - her last debate topic! 🌎Did I mention we were on our way to the fire station with a group of friends for a little field trip? My oldest was about three years older than the oldest kids. But she needs to know what our community people do just like they do! Local government. Check. 🌎On the way back home, we listened to a story about Ancient Greece on “Greeking Out” from National Geographic. History. Bam! 👉👉It happened naturally. See the opportunities that present, and talk to your kids. You’re never too old to learn. ❤️ 👉👉Tell me your favorite way to “do” social studies without doing anything 🤣!
