Learning Opportunity at Eye Exam
“Every patient has something to teach you”. I had a preceptor tell me this during my clinical rotations for PA school - and I think of it often. I learned so much from patients during my decade in practice and not just the medical - their culture or traditions or viewpoints....

When you change that to “every moment has something to teach you or your kids”—- it’s not “just” an eye exam. It’s an opportunity. I asked the optometrist to tell my kids why sunglasses are important. (Because you know they don’t listen to me!) She talked to them about taking eye breaks. Even pulled out a model of the eye to demonstrate.

Ask the questions. People love to share! Model for your kids inquiry and the confidence to humbly learn from others.

And if you’re medical or teacher or interact with kids at all, take the time to teach something you know. It will take a bit longer and may require some patience, but it’s so worth it for everyone.

Vacationing but figuring out how to replace semi-broken glasses. Just travel and figure it out as we go 😊
