Reclaiming Wonders
The image consists of two side-by-side photos capturing candid moments of children engaging in imaginative play around a body of water. In the first photo, a young blonde child wearing a red superhero-style outfit is seen crouching near the water's edge, intently focused on something in their hands. The water appears to be a drainage ditch or retention pond in a residential neighborhood, with houses visible in the background. In the second photo, two other blonde children, a girl in purple leggings and a boy in a red and white outfit, are standing on a wooden dock or platform extending into the water. The girl is holding a long stick or pole, while the boy appears to be carrying a container, perhaps for collecting water. The scene conveys a sense of carefree, outdoor exploration and the ability of children to find wonder and adventure in their immediate surroundings.

Imaginative Play at the Drainage Ditch

One of their new favorite places... I'll pretend it's the river and lake in our backyard. To them it's awesomeness even if it's just the drainage ditch and a retention pond in the neighborhood. When you discover the surprise of a banana plant trunk, it becomes a moment of survival. Transported to their make believe island, they started stripping the tree to braid for rope, exploring the different textures in the plant, floating it down the water, and delighting in the process of stabbing and hacking it up... amid several accidental slips into the water, of course. All while Mom sits by watching from the concrete slope waiting for someone to be impaled with their "spear" and "baby brover" to douse himself with his water carrier. Good times. No cost. And don't worry, the three biggest devised a carrying device to haul the biggest piece back home, lugging it on their shoulders to continue their after sunset work in my garage. Yes. This is our school.
