Imaginative Play at the Drainage Ditch
One of their new favorite places... I'll pretend it's the river and lake in our backyard. To them it's awesomeness even if it's just the drainage ditch and a retention pond in the neighborhood. When you discover the surprise of a banana plant trunk, it becomes a moment of survival. Transported to their make believe island, they started stripping the tree to braid for rope, exploring the different textures in the plant, floating it down the water, and delighting in the process of stabbing and hacking it up... amid several accidental slips into the water, of course. All while Mom sits by watching from the concrete slope waiting for someone to be impaled with their "spear" and "baby brover" to douse himself with his water carrier. Good times. No cost. And don't worry, the three biggest devised a carrying device to haul the biggest piece back home, lugging it on their shoulders to continue their after sunset work in my garage. Yes. This is our school.
