Hiking Providence Canyon in Georgia
How can a canyon be 200 years old? After hiking through the “Little Grand Canyon” and its soft crumbly soil, we can understand how man caused this because the dirt is soooo soft.
.
Purple. Yellow. Red. Look at all the colors uncovered! Over-farming 200 years ago stripped the trees and soil causing up to 150 foot drops across the 1000-acre Providence Canyon. This canyon makes for an amazing hike along the muddy-stream canyon floor.
.
Once the kids discovered clay pieces in the soil, our eyes were opened to the different colors under our feet. Hiking was put on hold as the scavenged for their “color”. I’m sure they’ll remember their clay if nothing else.
.
It reminded me of The colors of the Painted Desert, but you don’t have to go to the Southwest US for a canyon adventure. So lovely. Go check out Providence Canyon if you haven’t!
