Fall Foliage in the Great Smoky Mountains

We spent the day driving into the Smokies and I can now officially say I've been on North Carolina... Slightly sad to not just be able to keep going. So close. Beautiful trees, able to see the change in foliage with the change in elevation. We spent some time learning at the visitor's center- did you know the smoky mountains have such an immense biodiversity that it is under extra protection? 30 types of salamanders. 130 types of trees. It's a rainforest! Thus the "smoke". If I recall the stats, 2-3 bears per sq mile. The video talked about the history and native Americans etc.. My highlight was my daughter turning to me with a goofy look on her face saying excitedly "timeline!".... For our Ccers that would have been "Cherokee trail of tears". I love when the schooling proves to me that it does work. Just another "peg" on her mental list of connections she's making ;)
