Reclaiming Wonders
A brown dog lies on a couch covered with a blue blanket. The dog appears to be dozing contentedly, with its head resting on the armrest. In the foreground, an open book titled 'Animal Trivia Questions' lies on the floor, suggesting that someone, likely the dog's owner, has been reading or quizzing themselves with animal facts from the book. The scene conveys a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, with the pet enjoying a comfortable nap while its owner engages in educational reading.

Embracing your Child's Reading Interests

Who needs to know? ... It’s okay that your kid doesn’t devour books like “all the other kids”. The comparison trap is a hard one - even harder when you’re mom and teacher! . . But, my hesitant reader went to bed last night reading facts from his trivia book. Got up this morning ready to tell us what he read and read more. Sits around reading to us and quizzing us about animal facts. . . Guess what?! It still counts as reading! He likes to read facts and pulls out Childcraft books on his own in his room. He’s slowly enjoying novels more, but they’re big, have a lot of words, and have smaller font. Switch it up. Maybe it isn’t the reading but the actual physical book that’s the problem. The illustrated Harry Potter is doable and fun; the original is overwhelming! . . Your kid is your kid. Let him be himself and rest assured, you’re both doing just fine. . . PS: We love these Usborne Trivia books. I pull them out over meals to eat too. ;)
