Reclaiming Wonders
A young girl with blonde hair is seated at a table, deeply engrossed in reading a book. She is wearing glasses and a black t-shirt with the words 'It's a Trap' printed on it. In front of her is a bowl of what appears to be macaroni and cheese, along with a clear plastic cup containing a pink beverage. The girl seems completely absorbed in the world of the book, ignoring her surroundings. The image conveys a sense of a child's love for reading and the ability to become fully immersed in the stories within books.

Cherishing the Joy of Reading

Words. She and I are so thankful for those little black lines on the white pages. . She was “behind” just two years ago - others made sure to let me know. But she was never behind her own timeline. ❤️ . We took our own pace reading. Didn’t push it. Didn’t fight it. And I continue to be so thankful for homeschooling where she wasn’t told by teachers to hurry up or put in a special group for “slow readers”. That the love of books wasn’t shot down. . Currently she will be found with a pile of half-read books, reading Ramona at record pace, quoting her books to me… and completely “on schedule”. . She told me once that it’s hard for her to read because she didn’t know what the words meant when she read them. Valid points, right? So we slowed way down and she devoured audiobooks. And, like magic, she had more words in her head… and her reading shot up! . Slow down. Enjoy the ride. Read lots of books to your kids. And shut out the expectations of others. Your kids will catch up… when they’re good and ready. And, remember, words read through her ears count! . Don’t forget that for them to love words, you have to pick up a book (not your phone!) and show them that you love them too. ❤️ . Day 7. Words. #30gratefulmoments @wilkinsonnest
