There was a schedule for the day. An extra place to go we didn’t get to. That’s okay! Travel planning is one of my favorite things to do, and I always have more listed than can be done. Know when to say enough.

The quick stop at Fort Scott turned into a longer stop when the kids request to do a Junior ranger packet. What?! Usually they fuss and don’t want to. So when it’s their idea, all other plans get pushed aside. They learn so much more when they do their packets! Can’t say no to self-driven learning!

We roamed the fort, learned about its role in frontier life and the Civil War and war with Mexico, and discussed soldier life. The kids were impressed to see the size of the officers’ fancy houses compared to bunks for enlisted men. It was hot. Ice cream was needed 🥳
