Reclaiming Wonders
A group of four young children are interacting with a large brown pelican in an outdoor animal enclosure or zoo setting. The enclosure appears to be surrounded by wood fencing and has gravel or woodchip ground cover. There are some trees and foliage visible in the background, suggesting a natural environment. The children are dressed in casual, colorful clothing typical for warm weather. Two girls, one wearing a blue dress and the other a green shirt, are smiling and petting or touching the pelican. A young boy in a red shirt is also reaching out to touch the pelican. Another blonde boy in a green shirt is standing slightly apart from the others, also smiling at the interaction with the large bird. The children's expressions convey delight and wonder at the up-close encounter with the pelican.

Children Interacting with a Pelican at the Zoo

What do you do when you're going to end up in Abilene too early? Stop to check out the Waco zoo for the first time. I must say.... the brown pelicans made me sad. They're supposed to be soaring over me driving into Galveston not under an enclosure with a net. Small. Old. But different. Thus good! And more fun than a random pit stop without animals.
