Visiting Diyaluma Falls: Sri Lanka's Second Tallest Waterfall
Is it worth it to visit Sri Lanka’s second tallest waterfall?
📍Welcome to Diyaluma Falls
At 220 m (720 ft) - this is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Honestly, with how well known it seems to be, I had my doubts if it would be worth it or not.
After visiting, I can confidently say it is ☺️
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW (save for later!) ➡️➡️
The lower falls can be viewed from the street (video in the last frame) but the upper falls is where the real magic is. That is where you’ll find this stunning waterfall, natural swimming holes, views for days and just overall a beautiful place to explore.
I do recommend going first thing in the morning, by 9 AM it started to fill up a bit, but even then it was nowhere near as crowded as I anticipated it could get.
If you have a tuktuk/scooter, drive to the closet point where you can park (you should see signs but can always ask for help) then you can hike about 20 min to the upper falls. Once you get up there, you can go down to the waterfall (image 1) or up to the natural swimming hole area (images 2 + 3). I definitely recommend seeing both places while you’re there.
Diyaluma Falls is about one hour from Ella, so it can be a day trip from Ella if you are short on time. However, if you have the chance I recommend booking a stay in the area, it’s so peaceful and you can easily get to the waterfall early in the morning before the crowds and heat!
Is this an adventure you’d add to your Sri Lanka bucket list? 💦🌿
