Tips for Travel Creators to Work with Hotels
Are you a travel creator that wants to work with hotels? You’ll want to read this ⤵️
Picture this: you’re staying in your dream hotel/ apartment (for free!!) looking up at the sky full of stars begging someone to pinch you. 🤏
True story, that was me last summer in Vernazza. I dreamed of staying at this apartment ever since I discovered it on instagram two years ago. I was rejected at first, so the next year I tried AGAIN!
Today I’m sharing a few tips from what I’ve learned over the last 2 years so you don’t have to make the mistakes I did:
1. Shift your thoughts from what you want, to what you can give. What value can you bring to this hotel / accommodation? Can you take high quality photo and video content for their social media and website? If your answer is yes! - How can you prove it to them? If your answer is ‘I’m not sure’ - work on this first!!
2. Don’t be afraid of or disappointed by rejection. You’re gonna get A LOT of no’s before you get a yes. Don’t be afraid to follow up on your previous message, or try finding the hotels email on their website and reaching them there as well. Heck you can even call - I’ve done that once and I was put directly in touch with the head of the marketing department. Unfortunately, it was a ‘no’ for the collab, but at least I got the contact and saved time right?! That’s a win in my eyes…
3. I cannot emphasize enough that you HAVE to think about what the hotel is going to get out of this. It might be worth it to treat a paid hotel stay (think a place that’s similar to one you’d love to collaborate with in the future) as a collab, and take photo and video content for your portfolio. Also, if a hotel says no to a collaboration, you can still try asking for a discounted media rate so that you save some $$ while building your portfolio!
