Discover the Magic of Bacalar, Mexico's 'Laguna de los Siete Colores'
What’s the big deal about Bacalar?
Bacalar is so much more than a lagoon, in fact, the Mayans nicknamed it ‘Laguna de los Siete Colores’ because of the seven different shades of blue you can see here throughout the day 💙🦋🌀💎.
It’s also home to ‘stromalites’ ancient sediment deposits created over millions of years that are the oldest living landform on earth 😱 AND it has been selected as a Pueblo Mágico “magic town” because of its unique charm and natural beauty. ✨
If you plan a visit to the Riviera Maya in Mexico, Bacalar is a place not to miss! Here is a mini guide to help plan your visit! 👇
STAY
🏠 Stay right on the lake if you can, you’ll find lots of airbnb and hotel options although my personal favorite is @amigoshotelito. I recently met the owner, he is wonderful and told us that this is actually the oldest hotel (and most affordable) 😱 on the lake!!
EAT
🥭 Mango y Chile - favorite spot to eat and chill! Love their chocolate protein smoothie and chocolate chip cookie! Lots of savory options as well
🍣 Nao - sushi by night, yummy breakfast in the morning!
🌮 Barbanegra Bacalar - fish tacos and cauliflower appitizer were 🤌
DO
🏄🏼♀️ Sunrise paddle board or kayak and be sure to ride over Cenote Negro (also the perfect sunrise spot)
🌅 Sunset @habitasbacalar - call ahead and even if you’re not staying there, the restaurant and bar is open to the public so you can make dinner reservations or just grab a drink with a stunning view!
🚣♂️ Kayak on the lake or at the nearby Los Rapidos
😌 RELAX! One of the best things about Bacalar is that there isn’t too much to do so it’s the perfect place to chill, hang out on your dock and soak in those magical views 👀
Planning to visit Bacalar? 📌 Save this post for later and be sure to help preserve Bacalar by traveling mindfully! #ROAMincolor
