Swimming with Whale Sharks in Cebu

• “Whale shark watching” in Oslob - one of the major driving forces for the increase in tourism in Cebu. Who wouldn’t want to be this close to such a huge beautiful creature out in the ocean? I was lucky enough to encounter whale sharks in Mexico last year - there is a short period of time each year there to MAYBE get a glimpse of these guys, given their natural migration pattern. The Mexico version included a boat of 6 of us being told we may not see any - but a “maybe” was good enough for me to shell out over £100 to tag along. We spent a LONG time sailing around, far from shore, until we encountered a pair of whale sharks going about their usual business. So to hear that here in Cebu there are often over 10 sharks in such a small area, so close to shore, all year round, and that you could swim with them for around £12 - it made me raise an eyebrow and question why... Why would the sharks willingly self admit themselves to what sounded like seaworld a la ocean? I’m going to blog about this properly as I have so much to say about the experience, but essentially the reason they are there is because each day they are fed crack (sorry, I mean krill 👀) leaving them acting like stray dogs around a beach dinner table as the boats arrive (seriously swipe for videos!). There’s so many reasons why this is bad for them. I’m not preaching about what anyone in the Cebu area should or shouldn’t do with their holiday, but it’s good to have information and awareness when making decisions about what tourism to get involved with and reasons for doing so. Swipe for a few videos of the reality of the experience behind the nice Instagram pictures.. notice all the boats already out there in the first video 😶 • • • • • #philippines #philippine_islands #cebu #cebuwhalesharks #topphilippinesphoto #girlslovetravel #visitphilippines #globe_travel_ #whaleshark #teamkaptainkenny #exploretheworld #whalesharks #travelinspirers #goprounderwater #underwaterphotography #goprohero4 #underthesea #gltlove #tblogger #philippines🇵🇭
