Balancing Career and Life Goals
I haven’t posted for a month because my life has been purely Work Work Work - my aim has been to earn a years salary in just under 5 months 😶 so that 2018 can be the most insane year yet 😜 I’m literally dead inside, but am coming towards the end of the pain (31st Dec!) (Plus I have a sneaky Spanish road trip planned next week 😉)

I actually do enjoy my job and wish the NHS was in a better position to offer decent, flexible training posts that didn’t enslave it’s trainees to a life in hospital. I enjoy surgery, but I enjoy my life more... Senior colleagues are constantly questioning my life choices, trying to convince me to enter formal training, telling me I’m wasting my life and skills by “not committing”... Some people want to have a successful career, some a happy family life, some want to earn as much money as possible, some want to develop themselves in other ways - everyone has their own goals and we shouldn’t judge each other’s for being different. I think it’s important that you know what you’re aiming for and go all out to live for it, even if people laugh at your ideas and tell you to be “more normal”. Personally, I don’t need excess money, a fancy house, a high flying title - I just want to be happy, and wise, and experienced in life (not just experienced within the four walls of a hospital) 🤷🏼♀️
