Visiting James K. Polk Historic Park
Our 11th president is real to us today after visiting James K. Polk Historic Park in Pineville, NC. We agree we knew nothing before ... despite their mother singing them a song about Manifest Destiny again and again ;)

He was born on this land and this are historical of the era but not his original house. The garden had some blooming cotton which we examined - purple blooms. Who knew?! The little museum was full of lots of our history including Whitney’s cotton gin and Henry Clay and Santa Anna (which ties in nicely to our Texas roots!) and the Missouri Compromise. And And. No non-family had to listen to me sing ;)

How to prepare for vacation? Listen to a podcast about Polk on the way - then you can tell the kids extra details and sound super smart.

Day 1a of history vacation... You might want to ignore me for two weeks if you don’t want pics. Because others do ;)
