Reclaiming Wonders
The image depicts a vast indoor space within a museum, featuring a towering display of dinosaur skeletons. The centerpiece is an enormous, intricately assembled skeletal structure of a gigantic dinosaur, its massive jaws agape and its elongated neck arched gracefully. Surrounding this colossal exhibit are various other dinosaur fossils and skeletal remains, including a smaller but equally impressive skeleton positioned alongside the main display. The dimly lit, cavernous hall has a cathedral-like ambiance, with high ceilings and arched doorways framing the exhibits. In the foreground, a young child, bundled up in a hooded winter jacket, stands alone, gazing up in awe at the majestic prehistoric creatures towering above. The juxtaposition of the tiny human figure against the vast, ancient giants creates a sense of wonder and imagination, inviting the viewer to contemplate the vast expanse of time and the marvels of the natural world.

Visit Museums During Covid

Go to a museum during Covid?... It really is the best time! . . It may seem ironic for me to tell people that - mask-wearing, medical-knowledge spouting, isolationist and all. Honestly, I feel “safer” right now at a museum than hanging out at your house or going to the grocery store. And usually this is the time of year I call germ season and avoid high-touch museums ;) —- still not going to a children’s museum! . . Here’s why you should go! . 1) Most museums are in big cities. Most big cities take masks seriously and require them. Plexi-glass, distanced docents, right areas closed off, and frequently cleaned... . 2) There are no school groups or tons of kids. A homeschooler’s favorite kind of museum. You know I’m right ;) . 3) The museums are empty! Yesterday, we saw maybe 6 small groups of people in the whole huge museum complex. Fewer people = fewer germs. . 4) The museums are struggling for support. Financially I’m sure but also, sad to say, loneliness? Imagine being in the ticket booth and seeing ten people everyday or the docent who gets to talk to six people all day or the bookshop attendant who has one person walk in all day. Those of us who love museums and utilize them all the time, need to show them they still matter! . 5) Your kids need to get out of the house! My house is on a pretty tight shut-down with numbers soaring in our area in Georgia. I don’t take them to the grocery store, our homeschool group is on hold, church activities on hold... They need it. You need it. . . So here’s my reminder to go! Next week, we will go use one of our many memberships again and go support the museums. Too bad it means driving into Atlanta.... Ug. . . How have museums been for you during the last couple of months? Do you think it depends on where you live?
