Unexpected Civil War History in Montgomery
Civil War history met us unexpectedly at the Alabama State Capitol and the First White House of the Confederacy across the street. Just goes to show how much my history is lacking.
.
I went to Montgomery planning for Civil Rights and, additionally, found the site where the Confederacy began. Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederate states before it moved to Richmond, the site where Jefferson Davis was sworn in as president, and where he ordered the first shots on Fort Sumter.
.
Our tour guide, Bob, at the house eagerly told us so much history and even gave us all a Civil War bullet from the Battle of Petersburg. I do so love finding adults who want to share their passions with my kids! (Pretty sure I’ve said that 100 times 😉)
.
Both tours were free! #alabamafieldtrips

Maybe by the time my kids graduate I’ll finally grasp American history 🤓
