Tranquil Lakeside Town Near Smoky Mountains
I found it. The place. And I’ll tell you. Secret-like.
.
You know when you look at an area you want to visit and know there has a to be that great place… Somewhere in that square on the map. People know about it. So why can’t I? Where is it?!
.
The rest of you can have your tourist Pigeon Forge and overcrowded Gatlinburg. I’m going back to Dandridge.
.
.
Past the revolutionary war cemetery and the old tavern locations that housed historic people you know, we walked into the little town. Shopped the little shops and had coffee from the coffee bar. There’s even an old soda fountain. Ice cream.
.
But check this out. It’s the only town named after Martha Dandridge Washington. As in the wife of George. When they flooded the valley to make Douglas Lake, this fact saved the town and they built an earthen dam to protect it.
.
It’s right on the lake. An hour to the Smokies. 30 minutes to Pigeon Forge. 20 to Knoxville. Mountains and trees and water.
.
Quiet. Thanks to the family who recommended it. And for the rest who made it home for a week!

DM me id you want details on the house. We had 15 people but a few more would fit too. Great place. Now commemorated forever in the cousin’s horror movie they made during their stay 😜
