Discovering the Silk Road Legacy
We walked the Silk Road, and I walked away frustrated. It stressed to me how much I don’t know about this part of history and the world. So much we hear and read is post 9-11 influenced instead of talking about the grandeur and contributions to our world.
We learned about the caravans and camels, silk cocoon processing, walked through a set up market, listened to Middle East instruments, watched some Middle East fables, looked at early paper making... all so well put together and displayed. Very kid friendly.
I left feeling frustrated that so much we learn is so Europe focused instead of talking about the impact from the East... Paper making being brought over and why the explorers were trying to get to Asia, and all the inventions from the Middle East, etc.
Any good books or documentaries or anything you can suggest? How to prevent their first instinct from being negativity when talking about this part of the world? To see the good and beauty?
Until next time
