Reclaiming Wonders
A piece of paper with numerous handwritten numbers in blue ink, appearing to represent calculations or a progression of values. Adjacent to the paper is a clear glass jar containing a collection of U.S. dollar bills and coins, suggesting the numbers on the paper are related to a money-tracking or financial exercise. The scene is set on a wooden surface, possibly a table or desk, with a glimpse of a mesh material or grating in the background.

Teaching Exponential Growth with a Money Jar

Why not study the Coronavirus exponential growth with money! . . We started last week with a (play money) dollar and every day we calculate 10% and add it to our jar. The kids take turns counting the money, rearranging for fewer coins, practicing percents... and overall talking about why investing makes sense and starting when young and tying it all back to the rapid progression of the Disease. . . It seriously takes a couple of minutes and they request to do it. And when we get to the end of the month, we will go do something fun with our “investment”. Granted, it also leads the kid to ask all kinds of stock questions to Daddy later that he knows I don’t understand ;). And that’s okay.
