This book covers another topic that so many of us were never taught in school: the residential schools of the Native Americans. And this book is tough. And essential to our American history understanding. . . We were surprised to see that I Am Not A Number and Malian’s Song we’re both about the Anishinaabe tribe as in our beloved Birchbark House book series. The latter book even called grandma Nokomis and said some phrases we were familiar with. . . If you haven’t discovered The Birchbark House series, go grab it and add these two books to your list too.
