Reflections on a Mission Trip to Honduras

What if we reframed our world view and how we define missions? Who is helping who? (❤️It’s time to reflect from the 10 day mission trip to Honduras.🇭🇳) First time mission groups sometimes think they’re going to save people or help people or give them Jesus… But so often, that’s so wrong. As one of our team members said, “We think we have so much more than them. But, in reality, they’re the ones that have it all.” We are too busy with life that doesn’t matter. Too busy for real relationships and helping and tending to our families and ministry and to just be quiet. Too full of junk. Meanwhile, the Hondurans greet you with a smile and hospitality… no matter what. They don’t excuse a mess or not invite you in because they weren’t prepared. Instead, they walk an hour to meet you because their road is washed out from the rain. We make excuses for why we missed church or important events. Ministry looks like 🇭🇳VBS at a village school and endless games of duck, duck, goose 🇭🇳Handing out food bags (and hugs) to provide for physical needs 🇭🇳Learning songs in Spanish to show that we will go the extra mile 🇭🇳Visiting a shut-in and reminding them that people still care 🇭🇳Listening to someone’s story about God’s provision for them 🇭🇳Stepping back to support the local pastors who do the hard work every day 🇭🇳Playing hide and seek with a child who finally has a special needs school that sees her for the miracle she is (Check out @teachme2love - Honduras’ first special needs school!) May we all take time to think less of ourselves, reevaluate, and pour into others. Staying busy and self-important isn’t the solution. (And neither are these little squares…. 🙄) I’d love to hear your thoughts! And push you to prepare for missions. Thanks for being here. ❤️ Bobbie . . . .
