Peaceful Wander through Historic Savannah Cemetery
Savannah is trees and parks and beauty. One of the best (and free!) places to see all this is at the equally famous Bonaventure Cemetery.
The sun came out briefly in the morning of our Savannah trip, and we drove ten minutes away from downtown to explore this free “attraction” in Savannah. Yes, it feels strange to call it an “attraction”. Let’s think of it as a park.
I spent $3 to download the free Bonaventure Historical Society app on my phone. The GPS took us to certain parts of the 160 acre cemetery and told us stories about the people. Flowers blooming, oak trees covered in moss, local history, a stroll down to the water… free.
Most famous grave? Johnny Mercer. I might have walked around channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn singing 🎶”Moon River…” ❤️
We wandered the old trees and architecture and peace. And managed to enjoy a beautiful place… And then it started raining again. 😅
Here’s to marrying a travel partner who enjoys the same things you do…. and is equally cheap enough to not insist on fancy entertainment. ❤️
🙋♀️Any other cemetery wanderers out there? Where have you wandered?
