Reclaiming Wonders
The image depicts a cozy and lived-in home learning environment. Several children, likely siblings, are engaged in various educational and creative activities around a large wooden table in a sunlit room. Books, crafts, and learning materials are spread across the surface, creating a pleasantly cluttered scene. The children range in age, with some intently focused on drawing, painting, or reading, while others are building with Lego or playing with cards. The room is filled with natural light streaming through large windows, and the overall atmosphere is one of homely comfort and active learning. Despite the apparent chaos, there is a sense of purposeful engagement and a nurturing space for exploration and growth.

Morning Homeschooling Routine

Real life. No fluff here. Morning time is messy! . Today marked the first day getting back into morning time in our breakfast room - our main learning space. Love my windows! . . This is how you get your kids to listen: keep their hands busy. K drew mazes, M did her paint by number, H made a library craft and built Lego, and C was trying to distract everyone else with card tricks. . . Did I mention that’s also a good barometer for if they’re enjoying the book? When you see them putting their stuff down to look at you and pay attention, don’t make eye contact. Pretend you can’t see them. It’s all the mind game 😃 . . We started with prayer and Bible. Read some CC timeline cards - back to the beginning - and continued to work through our 100 Thing to Know About Food book by Usborne. Picture books about Lady Liberty and Casey at the Bat were in the library stack. And we finished up with working through Hamlet (another Usborne book). — more in my stories. . Honestly, they were wanting to do math too, but we had things to do. Start slow and build up. And don’t be like me and wait too many years to try gathering together for learning. I wish I’d done it years before! . The key: you don’t need a dedicated learning space! Do it where you live. . So now the real question. Should we start with Mel Gibson or Kenneth Brannaugh version of Hamlet? 😃
