Letting My Child Bike Alone on Nature Trail
I dropped my kid off. In the woods. To bike. Alone. He survived. šµāāļø

It was growth for both of us. We have a lovely trail that follows the old railroad track through the country and some old abandoned towns for miles. Yesterday he rode a couple of them, and today he wasnāt hushing until he got to do more.

We analyzed maps. Packed his backpack. He checked out and aired up his bike. He had an extra phone that I could track. And when he got to the end, he called to be picked up.

I keep thinking of the boys from Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain. They did so much more. Or kids 100 years ago who went out on their horses into wild territory. Hereās to not raising a wimp š

Just enough danger to make him feel bigger and braver. But controlled? Iām hoping this turns into reciprocated trust and appreciationā¦ and really good leverage to hold over him the rest of the time. Or Iām naively stupidā¦ š§
