Reclaiming Wonders
Two young girls are standing side by side, wearing vibrant homemade costumes and flower crowns on their heads. Their costumes are tie-dyed in shades of yellow, pink, and purple, with fluffy tulle skirts in shades of green and blue. They have cone-shaped party hats adorned with flowers, giving them a whimsical and festive appearance. The girls have bright smiles on their faces, radiating joy and excitement. The image exudes a sense of creativity, playfulness, and childhood wonder.

Homeschooling: Activities and Priorities

I challenge the definition of extracurricular —- aka “outside of regular school” —- for homeschoolers. If you’re living an all-encompassing learning life when everything is an opportunity for learning and adding good stuff... What is extra? . . As for “outside typical subjects”, the girls have choir and theater once a week with kids of all schooling types including some of our CC friends. A bit of piano lessons in person and over the computer. Church. Awana. That’s it. And it’s enough for us at this point. . . We’ve done soccer camp, Boy Scouts, archery lessons... but when it comes down to it, the kids don’t want to give up nights and weekends for sports and more “stuff”. They’d rather spend time relaxing, exploring, and playing kickball or four square with Daddy at home. And it’s hard to leave town for a month when you’ve dedicated your time and money elsewhere. . . It’s good with us. We stay pretty busy for unsocialized homeschoolers and are determined to fight against the busyness of most families. Granted, at some point, these boys need to accept that music lessons aren’t just for girls. That needs to be mandatory ;)
