Homeschool Math Games: Fun Learning Through Play

Back to Homeschool: Math. Another family favorite. But they’re games? That’s not math! . False. Games are the best way! Anything that has you total up scores over and over again totally counts as math in my book too - even if it isn’t a “math game”. . I have a hate-hate relationship with actual math curriculum. It’s too slow or I end up skipping lots of the book bc we know how to do it or buy it and never use it. My big kids are settling into Saxon for the year again and working on more structure. But the younger ones? Games and more games. . . Math isn’t just about doing drills and problems. It’s about learning to think and reason and logic. Games are a great way to do this and to practice lots of mental math. Start younger than the box recommends and challenge those little guys. They can do it! . Here’s some of ours. Ask away if you have any questions - or hit me with one I “need” 😉 This would be a good list to save for Christmas - hint hint! Phase 10 - thinking, adding Logic Links - Logic as you reason and evaluate Blobby’s Pizza - Fractions, adding Exact Change - Adding, money recognition Sleeping Queens - Adding Dragonwood - Adding That’s Pretty Clever - Mostly about thinking but adding up scores too Pentago - Logic, strategy, spatial awareness Santorini - Strategy kinda like chess 3 up 3 down - eh. Just fun 😃 Illusion - Percentages, detail, <> Math Stacks - This one is fractions but they also have other types Proof! - Mental math, +-x. Like Number knockout Skyjo - Adding, negative numbers! Shape Whiz - Geometry Quixx Deluxe - Adding. Lots of it! Prime Climb - +-x. Prime numbers Qwirkle - patterns, colors, lots of adding Mastermind (not pictured) - Best logic game ever! . Thanks @fortheloveofhomeschooling for challenging and encouraging us. And just a bit late for the #buildingournest challenge!
