Hiking Food: Lessons Learned
Let’s talk hiking food… Hiking lessons learned next time. 😉
🥾Cooking breakfast? Bad
Packing up gear is a lot and already feels rushed. Eating breakfast before all that exercise? Yuck.🤢
I would probably feel differently if hiking for weeks, but if it’s choosing hot oatmeal over a beef stick and nuts… snacks win.
🥾Warm meals at camp? Good!
I mastered the quick boil stove - so cool. I had some skeptics who thought the dehydrated food on our AT weekend would be gross. After a day of snacking, eating a meal with a spork is… fabulous.
🔹Tortilla Soup from @packitgourmet even came with cheese, lime sprinkle, and hot sauce. Yummy and healthy!
🔹And their Good Day Sunshine Bowl was a whole-grain, yummy start to my longest hiking day.
🔹Biscuits and gravy by @peakrefuel was bought simply out of curiosity. But it was good and authentic tasting! (And super heavy.)
🥾Hiking while eating? Bad
You can’t hold food while holding two hiking poles.🤣
When the ground is flat and not a muddy-slippery-sliding mess, put up the poles and eat while moving.
Yeah for one handed @lorissaskitchen beef sticks. They’re a new fave. (Good texture, good taste, good ingredients… and not crazy chewy jerky!)
🥾Candy? Good!
Gummy worms and chocolate covered almonds and jolly ranchers kept me going more than they should have. Caution with your chocolate melting. Ha! 😁
🥾Bonus good!
That Apple may weigh a lot. But it’s gonna taste so good when you’re hot. Be a rebel. Pack the whole thing. 😁

👉So lessons learned. Don’t plan to eat so much. And always share a bear box with a friend so you don’t have to carry it yourself.
👉👉And don’t be so quick to dismiss rehydrated food!
