Reclaiming Wonders
A young mother, wearing a plaid shirt, mask, and sandals, is seated on a couch or bench seat inside what appears to be a tire shop or automotive service center. She has her arms around two young children, a boy in a dinosaur shirt and a younger girl, as she assists them with reading or educational activities from books and papers spread out in front of them. Through the window behind them, parked vehicles can be seen outside. The scene portrays a mother making the most of a challenging situation, turning an unexpected tire repair into a teachable moment and quality time with her children.

Finding Opportunity in Adversity: A Roadside Lesson

How to change a tire —- as Katie said, this was a much better lesson than math would have been ;) . . Like how to pay attention and pull into that parking lot when something sounded weird. And we figured it out on our own. Found the pieces. Got the jack working. Hubby was an hour away. . . Maybe I should have asked for help? Didn’t know I was going to need it. Has Covid made people that afraid of others? Or are we just in our own world? I like to think I would have offered a hand or at least checked to make sure another mom didn’t need anything. Instead of just watching while I was surrounded by kids. Or avoiding eye contact altogether. . . How important is to offer to help?!! I don’t know how many men just drove past... I watched people as I cranked, determined to do it. Was losing my faith in Georgia. I would have never gotten those lug nuts off until a man asked if I had it under control. Thank you, sir! . . Here’s to teaching my girls to do stuff on their own! And learning on my own in the process. . . PS: The gentleman who guided me and helped? Older black man helping white lady. There’s the lesson maybe. Would you have helped me? Or someone different than yourselves? We’re in this together! . . And don’t worry, Dad. New tire on. All good.
