Family's Year of Travel and Roadschooling
Travel is always the highlight of our learning year. Day 2 of @intentionalhomeschooling #hereisourhomeschool challenge.
.
Because of Dad’s work schedule, I am often alone with the kids exploring our country for learning, fun, and family. He meets us when we can - because Dad trips are definitely the best.
He’s meeting us to explore the Florida Keys next week!
For me, travel brings so many opportunities. These aren’t days I “take off from school”. These are field trips and life lessons and so much learning.
I did the stress of full time work for years and am blessed to get to stay home for now. This gives me time to travel - a luxury I never had before. Living halfway across the country from family, I either make travel a priority, or we just don’t get to see our people as much as we would like. Usually I turn those trips into sight-seeing road trip circles and hit the highlights on the way.
I think the five of us were away from home almost three months last year! We saw grandparents and cousins and greats and friends; ancient history and US history and Bible history; museums and gardens; mountains and lakes; and explored Georgia frequently.
Look where we went! 🚙✈️
🌎Texas family and exploring - Houston, Wichita Falls, Dallas, Waco (Mammoths!)
🌎Oklahoma family fun - OKC, Tulsa, Lawton
🌎Missouri - Followed Lewis and Clark from Kansas City to St. Louis
🌎The Smokies in TN - hiking and kayaking with family
🌎Memphis, TN - blues and history!
🌎Montgomery, AL - so much history!
🌎Skiing and Relaxing in Colorado
🌎Creation Museum and Ark in KY
🇭🇳And most recently, the oldest and I went to Honduras on a mission trip!
Roadschooling is the most amazing way to learn. If you’re nervous about doing it, ask away! Check out my blog post entitled “Top Ten Tips: How to Travel with Kids All by Yourself!” For some encouragement.
Do you have any road trips coming up? I’m always looking for inspiration from you all ❤️
