Family Nature Walk in Marshland

This would be the swamp part of our #botanybayplantation day on #edistoisland as we walked through the marsh to get to the barrier island. Fiddler crabs! Which makes the periwinkle snails climb up the reeds to get away from the crabs. It never ceases to amaze me that cool stuff is right in front of you all the time, but you don’t see it... and then just the right nature guide, and your eyes are open to see them everywhere. And in several decades, when the barrier island has been more eroded and can’t offer it’s protection, this land will be so much more different. And this ecosystem will be gone. Arthropods! ;)
