Family Trip to Scotland: Trains, Cars, and Sights

You asked for it! I could go back to Scotland in a heartbeat, so let me tell you how we did it. Maybe I can convince you to beat me back there. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️ Figuring out the route our family vacation would take around Scotland was the hardest part. There just won’t be enough time so see “everything”, but our clockwise train trip around the UK covered a lot of ground with some amazing cities. 🚞✈️🚙 Here’s how we did it! 1️⃣Drove to Orlando to catch a flight to Glasgow. Slept in the Walmart parking lot for a couple of hours. It seemed silly to pay for five hours in a hotel. 🥱 2️⃣Roamed around Glasgow. It wasn’t my favorite. 🤷‍♀️ 3️⃣Train Day 1 through the Scottish moors from Glasgow to Fort William. 🚞 4️⃣Train Day 2 - Fort William over the famous Harry Potter bridge to Mallaig with a ferry ride over to Skye, arriving at Armadale. ⛴ 5️⃣Our rented car met us when we landed at Skye where we spent several days exploring from our rented house. 🚐 6️⃣The train loop continued as we drove the car to Inverness and had an amazing seal boat trip in the way.🦭 7️⃣A day trip from Inverness to Aviemore allowed us to meet the reindeer herd before heading back again to drop off the car. Reindeer!🦌 8️⃣Train Day 3 (which was day 8 from the start of our pass) took us through Stirling to land in Edinburgh. 🚞 9️⃣We stayed in Edinburgh for five days – which still wasn’t enough! – before taking the train south to London for the rest of our trip and the flight back home.☹️ 👉Save this to help you make the Scottish dreams come true. I have several more posts planned about some of the “must see” places that we still talk about today. ⭐️Check out my most recent post “How to Plan A Family Trip to Scotland: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” linked in the bio. It covers the details of which train pass we used and how we got around. 👉Reach out if you have any questions. I’d love to help and live vicariously through your adventures in Scotland. —-//📸Playing in the cold water of the Fairy Pools and exploring Dun Breag ruins on Skye; April 2019//—-
