Exploring a Civil War Battlefield with Family
Pea Ridge Battlefield. Northwest Arkansas. 2 day battle. 23,000 soldiers to decide if Missouri’s Civil War fate. Most important battle west of the Mississippi.
At least, that’s what the internet says after the fact. We drove the loop around the battlefield, pictured the difficulty crossing cliffs, discussed the farmhouses where families would have been living…
What I need (listen up @nationalparkservice ) is a giant summary in museums. Don’t give me all the details; give me a giant plaque with basic facts. Who won. Why important. The Cliffnotes version.
We are close to many battlefield and have seen so many. But my CW ignorance makes it hard for me to grasp it. These sites need to help me understand the big picture, but I just leave frustrated with myself.
How can we get more people wanting to learn history and go to NPS and take the time? Make it easier for us.
Anyone have a good resource for the Civil War that doesn’t require 30 years of study to understand?
