Comparing Drought Impacts on a River

Hows this for comparison? First picture, K at the Great Sand Dunes today standing where there had been a wide shallow river last year. Second pic, C in the same Medano River this time a year ago. Last year the Rio Grande was so high that rafting was cancelled for safety; this year we watched people pushing their raft as it got stuck on the bottom. . . Hows that for a real life geography lesson? . . I did inform my oldest that she will have geography terms to memorize for Challenge A this year - she looked at me like I was making it up. Never had occurred to her that people did such a thing. My kids have seen so much real world geography that I don’t think they realize that many people learn it from a book. Hope they appreciate it!
