How to Make Outdoorsy Friends for Summer Adventures

How to make outdoorsy girlfriends/femfriends in time for summer adventures! ☀️ 👯‍♀️ Having a community is so important for our mental health & I know how hard it is not to have friends or not have good friends Unfortunately, friends don’t just fall into our laps after college. They can be hard to make and even harder to keep going. Friendship, when we have our own busy lives, requires work—on the friendship itself and on ourselves—like any other relationship! Here’s how I found [and kept] the best outdoorsy girlfriends I’ve ever had just in the last few years!: • DM’d women with similar interests and after establishing a kind of relationship - asked if they wanted to hike or get coffee! • Went on meetups through established groups like @illa.app @womenwhoexplore and the Colorado Hiking Girls on @geneva run by @juliatakesahike • Joined a climbing gym and talked to strangers (any specialty gym will do!) • Not only said yes to invitations, but initiated the invites too (this one is important - both have to initiate!) • Promised to myself to be a friend I’d want to have (consistent, communicative, honest, fun, kind, compassionate) • Said YES even when I was uncomfortable or nervous • Made myself practice healthy communication and confrontation even though that’s my crux What would you add to the list?! What’s been something holding you back from making new friendships?
