A majority of you voted in my stories yesterday saying you haven’t been to these salt flats yet, so now I want to know how did you find out about them? I also want to give you a guide on things you can do when visiting that unique spot!
-
1. Drive out onto the flats - it doesn’t seem like a smart idea or a little intimidating when you first pull up but just got for it! BUT not in the wet areas or if it has just rained. You’ll get stuck and that’s not worth it, so make it to the rest areas first and then just hop the sidewalk and go on out! 🏜
-
2. Check out the Raceway - There is an exit for the Raceway that is a sure way to get onto the flats without running into any wet spots but if you hop the sidewalk from the rest areas and go straight out there is a berm with gaps that open up to the raceway. The raceway is smoothed out, ten miles long, and where you can safely drive as fast as you would like to in whatever motor vehicle you’re in! 🏁
-
3. Motorized Toys - Motorized bicycles, motorcycles, four wheelers, etc. bring ‘em all and rip around! There isn’t anything to rent but there doesn’t seem to be any restrictions either! 🏎
-
4. Sunrise, sunset, stargazing - I could not recommended more that you spend at least 24 hours out on the flats. Each time of day is so beautiful and the stargazing is AMAZING! You are allowed to camp out on the flats, including starting a small campfire, but you have to bring out your own wood as there obviously is only salt out there 🤣
-
Bonus item - there is a little town less than five miles away with loads of restaurants, casinos and hotels but if you want to get back to the flats from there go through the raceway exit and not the rest areas or you’ll spend an hour trying to get to the rest area exit 😳
