Beginner's Guide to Snowshoeing

Beginners guide to snowshoeing! - Save the post for your first snowshoeing adventure and share it with you adventure friends! - Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to try snowshoeing, but we’re to intimidated to try it 🙋🏼‍♀️ yea me too! So here are the tips I would give to you after going on my first snowshoe adventure! - ❄️ Waterproof boots and wool socks! The very first thing I noticed while I was suiting up was that my toes were already cold. Not only will the waterproof boots (@obozfootwear are my jam) keep your feet dry they will help keep the warmth in on your toes and combined with some thick wool socks (@smartwool hiking socks are my fav) you’ll be set to go! - 🌨 Layers, layers, and more layers! If you’re anything like me you’ll need a ton of layers. At one point I had to take a layer off but only shortly and was so thankful for all the layers on the way back when the sun was going down. - 🗻 Check the avalanche risk and don’t go alone. Idk about you all but an avalanche was a big intimidating factor for me before going, so naturally we checked out the risk for the area we were going to and were good to go! Hiking in the winter makes for slightly more dangerous adventures so bring a buddy and let someone else know where you will be and for how long! - ☃️ Keep your electronics of any kind close to your body so they don’t die in the cold. - 🏔 Bring sunscreen and sunglasses! Just because it’s winter does mean you won’t need protection from the sun. Snow burn is real and hiking looking straight into the sun is a heavy strain on your eyes. - Bonus tip: @rei has snowshoe rentals if you don’t want to buy a pair before trying it out and Facebook marketplace is a great place to find pairs secondhand! • • • • • •
