Beginner Hiking Tips!
(Save this post if you’re looking to get more into hiking or want to help a friend get outside!)
Hiking can be really intimidating if you’re just starting out, but it doesn’t have to be! Below is a list of things anyone should consider before a hike but are also crucial steps in order to get you out there for the first time!
👫🏼Find a hiking buddy! Oh you don’t have one? I got you! For Colorado based friends check out @mtnkds , ladies wanting to hike with other ladies (anywhere in the world) check out @outdoorsygals , and anyone wanting to hike (or travel) with anyone anywhere check out @officialtravelsquad
🥾Find an easy or beginner trail! @alltrails is an excellent tool to find easy trails to help keep you from accidentally doing to long of a trail or one that requires more skill to climb due to its terrain. And pick a trail based off of your fitness level and then slowly work your way up!
🌦 Check that weather! Trails can be accessible and easy or inaccessible and difficult depending on the time of year!
🎒Come prepared! Plenty of water (always a better bet to bring more than you think you need), meals and/or snacks, a first aid kit, etc!
🤳🏼Always let someone know where you are! Send a link to the trail you’re headed to with the amount of time you intend to be there and who you’re going with.
🌲 Learn the 7 principles of Leave No Trace! These principle pack a punch of info to keep you and nature safe. To check them out, I have a guide on my page or you can visit @leavenotracecenter
How old were you when you went on your first hike? If you’ve never gone hiking, what are the biggest road blocks to getting out there?
