The Purpose of Life Beyond Money and Stuff
The American dream has become the American nightmare. -
I’m about as pro America as it gets but in America, the measure of success is the amount of money you can make, the amount of people who know who you are, and the amount of stuff you can accumulate. When did we decide that this equates to a successful life? -
We wake up early, go to bed late, stress ourselves out the whole day, eat poorly and complain about how we don’t have any time. Idk about you but that doesn’t sound like success to me. The merry-go-round of normality ain’t so merry after all. -
There’s gotta be more point to our lives than simply making money and getting stuff. So what is it? Some say to be happy so let’s break that down. Does buying stuff make us happier? Well according to statistics there are more depressed people now than ever before despite the monetary success and abundance of anti depressant drugs in this country. Ironic isn’t it? So that’s a resounding no. -
What if all the narratives about the purpose of life culture feeds us are so self centered that we can’t actually see beyond them. What if the point of life isn’t to work hard and make money (although, don’t get me wrong, this is very important), what if the point of life is to make disciples and point people towards Jesus? -
Now all the sudden the paradigm switches from prioritizing your work to focus on what others think of you, to prioritizing your work in accordance to what He thinks of you. Living a joy filled life is now attainable because you got yourself out of the way and are now living for the kingdom. That little shift makes all the difference. -
Be blessed and stay stoked 😎🤙 - •
