Capturing Nature's Grandeur with Purpose
So over the past few weeks I’ve been shooting a bunch of podcasts for a new project thats coming out in a month or so that revolves around creators of all types. I’ve interviewed a bunch of people with different styles and goals but this question seems to come up quite often. Why do you create? -
I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. Like does what I shoot have a purpose? I mean I’m all for shooting for fun but at some point you gotta realize a bigger purpose than fun. -
It’s funny living in Hawaii you see tourists taking pictures on their phone all the time. They literally go to a place snap a pic and leave and it’s got me curious. Why? Like I get that it’s beautiful but chances are you won’t really look at it again unless you’re showing a friend and even then it’s still shallow. So why? -
Maybe I’ve been spoiled by beauty I’m not sure, but for me what gets me stoked is not necessarily the scenery. It’s not the transitions or the music or the fancy editing. What gets me excited is the creativity behind showing the massive scale of a location compared to a small human and the emotion and story that goes with it. I shoot a lot of different styles and subjects, but by far my favorite is landscape scale. There’s something about it that’s majestic and forces you to be in awe. -
So I don’t really know what the purpose of my stuff is yet. I’m still figuring it out, But I know that I want it to somehow inspire people to not take moments and scenes for granted, but rather to truly experience. If you don’t have a purpose to take the picture then why are you taking it? I’m trying to be more intentional and I’m not quite sure exactly what that means yet or why I’m even writing this but maybe someone else can relate.
Whatever you do, create with purpose. Don’t shoot just to shoot. Story always rules. Make yours a good one. -
Be blessed and stay stoked😎🤙 •
