A breathtaking panoramic view of a rugged mountain landscape, with towering snow-capped peaks dominating the horizon. In the foreground, a lush green forest of evergreen trees covers the rolling hills and valleys. Two smiling women, appearing to be friends or partners, pose together on a winding scenic hiking trail, surrounded by the majestic natural beauty. The sky is a brilliant shade of blue, with wispy clouds and contrails from passing aircraft adding visual interest. The women's warm, casual attire and backpacks suggest they are embarking on an adventurous hike or trek through this stunning mountainous region.

In 2016, I explored a lot more of my native countries than I did of the outside world. I appreciated those journeys - it's important to rediscover your own countries, your own roots, and take a second, closer look at the things you thought you knew. We tend to ignore the beauty of the familiar. •••••• In the USA, I drove through the deserts of #Arizona, the streets of San Francisco, the hills of the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. I discovered the cool, artistic vibes of #Asheville and spent a lot of time photographing the historic monuments of our nation's capital. I partied in #Miami but also saw the artistic and cultural parts of the city in Wynwood and Little Havana. •••••• In Greece I ventured up north for the first time, to the wild beauty of the lakes and mountains near the northern borders. I stumbled through gorgeous, lively cities like #Xanthi and #Thessaloniki, and in the summer wandered all over the neighborhoods of #Athens before heading out to the islands of the Ionian and Aegean. •••••• I also got to explore and fall in love with Sweden, and I have a lot more international travel on the books for this year. •••••• I'm happy for the perspective 2016 has given me on the places I've considered homes in my life, and I can't wait for an entirely new kind of adventure in 2017. Stay tuned for my "year in review" post on the blog today! •••••• Tag a friend you want to travel with in #2017 below!
